Privacy Policy
This policy describes what Ford Recall Tracker actually collects and how it is used. We keep it honest because transparency is part of the joke.
Information We Collect
Information you provide: if you subscribe to recall alerts, we collect the email address you submit. If you submit a correction report, we collect the details you choose to provide (an optional name, an optional email, the reported issue, and a supporting source).
Information collected automatically: like most websites, our hosting platform and analytics tools may log IP addresses, browser and device information, request headers, and standard server logs. We use browser storage (localStorage) to remember your cookie/consent preference.
Cookies & Analytics
We use essential storage to operate the site. With your explicit permission (via the consent banner), we enable first-party analytics to understand aggregate traffic. Analytics is off by default and no analytics events are dispatched unless you allow it. You can change your choice at any time by clearing site storage or revisiting this preference.
What we collect when analytics is allowed: a random, non-identifying visitor ID and session ID (stored in your browser), the page path viewed, an approximate device type / browser / operating system, the referring page, and UTM campaign parameters present in the URL. We record interactions such as outbound link clicks to NHTSA and news sources, site searches (the search term and number of results), share-button clicks, email sign-ups and unsubscribes, and engagement with parody features (for example the Regret Calculator or Recall Forecast). We do not capture VIN numbers or any information you enter on third-party websites, and we do not attempt to derive or store your precise location.
Why: to understand which Ford models and recalls attract interest, which content is useful, and how people find the site — so we can improve it.
Provider & storage: analytics are processed by this site's hosting platform (Base44) as a first-party service using browser localStorage/sessionStorage. We do not enable advertising networks or behavioral advertising tracking.
Bot filtering & admin traffic: known crawlers and automated traffic are flagged and excluded from default views, and authenticated administrator sessions are excluded by default so they do not inflate public-traffic figures.
Retention & choices: aggregate event logs are retained for analytics purposes. To opt out entirely, decline analytics in the consent banner or clear site storage; no analytics events will be sent. Some reports (for example organic search queries from Google Search Console, or geographic aggregates) require an additional integration and are labeled "Integration required" rather than estimated.
Recall Alerts / Email Subscriptions
If you subscribe to recall alerts, we use your email address solely to send recall-related notifications. We collect only the information required to send alerts. Every alert email includes a one-click unsubscribe mechanism. We do not sell subscriber email addresses, and we do not add subscribers to unrelated marketing lists.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any alert email or the unsubscribe page.
Service Providers
We rely on third-party providers to operate the site, which may include a hosting provider, an email provider for recall alerts, and (when enabled by you) an analytics provider. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy practices. We do not knowingly transfer personal information to parties for purposes inconsistent with this policy.
Data Retention
Subscriber email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Correction reports are retained for as long as needed to resolve the report and maintain an audit trail. Server and analytics logs are retained according to the respective provider’s standard practices.
Deletion Requests & Your Privacy Rights
You may request deletion of your email address or correction submission at any time. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, submit a correction report with your request or use the unsubscribe page.
Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Third-Party Links
This site links to external sources (NHTSA, news publishers, and others). Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We monitor for abuse and reserve the right to block activity that appears harmful or automated.
Policy Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the updated “last revised” date on this page.
