Ford recalls about 1.4 million pickup trucks over gearshift issue, NHTSA says
Federal regulators prompted a recall of roughly 1.4 million Ford F-150 trucks to address unexpected transmission downshifts tied to degrading sensor connections. Dealerships will recalibrate powertrain control module software to stop the trucks from suddenly dropping gears while in motion.
Surprise first-gear downshifts at highway speeds keep Ford owners alert and mechanics employed.
